Junior Activities membership is limited to children aged 7 to 13 (Under 8-14), although we also run a program for nippers aged 5 and 6 (Under 6 and 7). The age group is determined as of midnight on the 30th September at the commencement of each season. Therefore if your child is 8 on the 30th Sept 2018, they will be in the U9 age group. If they are 11, they will be in the U12s. Your child needs to be 5 on the 30th September to join, if they are 5 after this date (eg 1st October) they will need to wait until the following season to join.

Prior to joining the surf club, it is compulsory that all children (U6 - U14) be tested at the start of each season before they enter or participate in any Surf Life Saving Australia Junior Activity Program.

Each member needs to complete a pool proficiency. The best way to do this is to attend one of our Sign On Days. If you cannot make one of these dates, you will need to have an accredited coach sign the swim proficiency form at the bottom of the page (please note a copy of the swim coach's accreditation is essential) along with all membership forms and paperwork (found at the bottom of this page)

Once your child has completed their Pool proficiency they must be able to complete their Run-Swim-Run to participate in any Nipper water activity.

HOW TO JOIN THE 2018/19 SEASON

We've already had our Sign on Days but you can still join for this season -

Download the following paperwork,
complete the proficiency swim and send all forms with payment,
the Wednesday prior to your first day of starting Nippers.

Your child's swim coach can sign them off or call your local pool to check that an accredited coach will be available - note we also require a copy of the coach's accreditation.

All forms with payment are required at least 3 working days prior to starting Sunday nippers.
Note if you turn up on Sunday with paperwork, your children will not be able to start that day.

At least one parent/guardian needs to join.

POOL PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS ARE AS BELOW

AGE POOL PROFICIENCY

Under 6..... Kick on wall with face in water / 30 sec survival float
Under 7..... Push off wall with face in water / 30 sec survival float
Under 8..... 25m freestyle / 1 min survival float
Under 9..... 50m freestyle / 1 minute survival float
Under 10... 100m freestyle / 1.5 minute survival float
Under 11... 100m freestyle / 2 minute survival float
Under 12... 200m freestyle / 2 minute survival float
Under 13... 200m freestyle / 3 minute survival float
Under 14... 200m freestyle in 5 minutes or less / 3 minute survival float

FIRST NIPPER DAY 2018/19

Sunday 23rd September 2018, 8.15am

We understand families are busy so 100% attendance is not required.
We encourage as much participation as possible.

BEACH EVALUATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE AS BELOW

AGE RUN-SWIM-RUN
This proficiency is be completed at the beach in the ocean and allows children to participate in water events. If they cannot complete the Beach Evaluation they are limited to knee-depth water activities at the discretion of the Age Manager until they can complete.

Under 6 & 7... No requirement
Under 8.......... 25m run, 25 wade, 25m run
Under 9.......... 50m run, 50 ocean swim, 50m run
Under 10........ 50m run, 50 ocean swim, 50m run
Under 11........ 50m run, 100 ocean swim, 50m run
Under 12....... 50m run, 100 ocean swim, 50m run
Under 13....... 100m run, 100 ocean swim, 100m run
Under 14....... 100m run, 100 ocean swim, 100m run

COMPETITION EVALUATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE AS BELOW

All nippers must wear their age coloured nipper cap ($15) and high visibility rashie (hot pink) - singlet ($25) or long sleeve rash shirt ($45) and are recommended to purchase the club swimming costume. (Boys $35, girls 1 piece $60-70, girls 2 piece $40-65 approx)

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

We rely heavily on parent involvement for our Junior Program to run:

One parent/guardian is required to become a member (Junior Associative)
One parent/guardian is required to be at the beach at all times
One parent/guardian of U6 & U7 nippers are required to be with the group at all times
Help with the running of activities - whether it's packing up the gear, water safety or officialing at carnivals, we need your assistance
